Many articles in the new issue of The Alarm Clock focus on faith in troubled times. The tension in the Middle East provides the current background.
The issue further contains an extended contribution in the Word Work series. This time it is about the name LORD of hosts. Rev Korving shows how this name provides comfort in the Bible: God protects, leads and fights for His people. But he also makes it clear that we cannot simply claim God on our side.
This is also stressed by Ingrid Dobbe in an article on religious language in international politics. She shows how, especially in the United States, Biblical concepts are used to justify political choices. Her conclusion is clear: caution is necessary, because world history is not salvation history.
Coby Verbruggen (73) gives a warm insight into her life of faith. To her, the church feels like a second family and almost as a matter of course she regularly visits elderly members of the congregation. She is wholeheartedly involved in the small prayer circle: “Prayer is very important. Whatever it is that you are struggling with, you can always pray for it.”

The classis report of the Apeldoorn classis reports the election of delegates to the Private Synod of the East. The proposal to redistribute the classes of Amersfoort and Apeldoorn was not adopted.
The Leeuwarden classis also elected a delegation to the private synod, in this case that of the North. The question is whether church visits can still be made in the current situation.
