Diaconate: being present on behalf of Jesus
An important fact for diaconate is what we read in Matthew 25, where Jesus says: whatever you have done for one of the least of My brothers or sisters, you have done for Me.
This involves giving food, drink and clothing to the vulnerable, caring for strangers and visiting prisoners. Diaconate, then, is spontaneous and humane action on behalf of those in need who cross your path. Near and far.
In the Netherlands
What seems like a simple task does require reflection. How are you present on behalf of Jesus? Personally and as a congregation? How are you as a deacon? How do you coordinate aid work for your own congregation, in your neighbourhood or village and worldwide? From our office in Veenendaal we gladly provide information and training on this subject.
Abroad
The need abroad is sometimes very great. We cannot be present everywhere. Diaconate chooses to support missionary work 'in deed'. The work on our mission fields and the work of our missionary diaconal workers.
We also support projects operating from local churches. Emergency aid deserves special attention. We want to be present on behalf of the Saviour wherever there are calamities or wars.
Deputation and consultants
For all this work, there is the deputation diaconate for you and you. The implementation is done by the diaconate team, with the two diaconal consultants you see in the photo. We would love to drink a cup of cold water (Matt. 25) or a hot cup of coffee with you sometime.
