On 5 January 2024, all church councils of the Christian Reformed churches will receive an invitation to a convention on the future of the CGK. This convention will be held on D.V. Saturday 20 April 2024 in the Pniël church in Veenendaal.
The conversation going on in the CGK on the topic of 'Women and ministry', among others, is proceeding with difficulty. Several classes are under pressure as a result. The task force set up by the synod to lead the conversation signalled to deputies of representation that a special intervention is needed. Therefore, deputies come up with the initiative to hold a convention
A convention is a meeting at which two members are delegated from all Christian Reformed churches. This convention focuses on the question of whether and how these churches can continue to bear joint responsibility for what has been entrusted to them. The convention wants to gauge the churches' support for concrete scenarios to get out of the impasse. The outcome of this carrying capacity measurement can serve the decision-making process that is to take place at the General Synod of Rijnsburg 2024-2025.
The invitation asks church councils to prepare for the convention through discussion of a document to follow in February. Deputies express the hope that all churches will want to participate in the convention in order to discuss the future of the CGK in unity.
