Translation is available in any language during all church services at CGK Bunschoten. This is possible thanks to the translation app Kefas.
Visitors who want to be able to follow the church service in their own language can join a Telegram group for that language. Telegram is similar to Whatsapp. During the service, there is always someone who will meetypt throughout the service. This text is automatically translated and the visitor reads the text in their own language via Telegram within seconds.
The beauty of Kefas is that it runs simultaneously to the service. People sitting in church experience the preacher's expression or the songs and can also read it along in their own language. That makes many people enjoy using it. Some of the comments we get after the service: "I was really personally touched by the service, thanks for translating".
"How nice that I can follow the service like this, I now understand everything that is spoken".
"You read word for word what is said, God spoke to me."
It does not take the translator a lot of time. However, it is important that the translator can type quickly and can empathise with the visitors, so that he senses what information they need to follow the service properly. In CGK Bunschoten, there is a roster of 10 translators who translate weekly. The Kefas app is even used at funerals, weddings and coffee mornings with foreign women.
