René Hubregtse,
domestic diaconate consultant

As a consultant, I have the privilege of meeting deacons from all over the country. Usually this is in a classic context, but increasingly I am also invited to talks with local diaconates or church councils.

It is striking how passionate local diaconates are: concerned about the ups and downs of their congregation and often beyond. Deacons and church members who are present in the name of Jesus by caring for fellow human beings in need. Every time a wonderful proof that Christ's church is actually spreading His love!

At the same time, I experience a certain modesty. When I ask about appealing diaconal experiences, people are quick to say: we are just doing our job. It would be good to let go of that modesty a bit. Tell what you can do! By doing so, you encourage others to imitate your example.

Share and inspire

Next season, I will be looking for diaconal stories to inspire others.

First of all, I invite deacons to share beautiful, instructive experiences with me. So that I can share them with others, for example through the Diaconate newsletter or on the website.

Secondly, I would like to visit more diaconates. You may invite me to a diaconate or church council meeting to discuss how you give substance to the diaconate in your congregation and what questions this raises.

Finally, I will organise a monthly digital diaconal consultation hour. You can non-binding commitment to discuss your question or case with me and other deacons to learn from each other.
