The Faculté Jean Calvin (FJC) in Aix-en-Provence is one of the three Reformed theological faculties in the French-speaking region. The faculty has about ninety students. Diaconate gives scholarships to three theology students who cannot pay for their studies themselves. Unlike in the Netherlands, students at this university do not receive any government support. This is the story of Joel, a student at FJC.
As a child of missionaries, I grew up in Africa. I wanted to serve the Lord Jesus, but was unsure how. After studying geography and some jobs, I decided to heed my calling and started studying theology two years ago. That was a step of faith. I was short of funds and full of questions. Since then, I can say I have come up short of nothing. I have learnt to rely on God for my livelihood. He opens doors time and again. My faith has grown tremendously in these two years of study. I understand more about God, His Word and His way with people. My teachers help me live as a Christian and I learn a lot from the wisdom of theologians. Through pastoral internships and conversations with classmates who are passionate about the things of God, I am able to see all kinds of possibilities within the Kingdom of God. There is a need for workers, especially in France! Young Christians need to rise up and be trained out of love for people and to the glory of God. I want to thank diaconate CGK for the support.
