Today, we are experiencing uncertain and anxious times. A war is developing in the Middle East that is far from over. In north-east Syria, people who have already fled several times are being driven out. And elsewhere in the world, too, things are unsettled. Diaconate CGK provides support in places where the need is high. Herewith two messages.
Lebanon
From the projects, we hear how people are in the midst of this. Our coordinator in Lebanon, Sophie, tells how hundreds of displaced families have already been helped with mattresses, blankets, winter clothes, milk and other essential supplies. It is currently cold there and the number of refugees is increasing. Their trust is in God: “In recent years, our country and people have endured one crisis after another. Yet we can always say with Paul, ‘We are afflicted in all things, but we are not cornered.’ (2 Cor. 4) And this is thanks to the grace of our God and Father.”
Northeast Syria
From northeast Syria (Kurdistan), we hear from project coordinator Zmnako: “The first emergency aid distributions in northeast Syria have been carried out successfully. On 25 February, 60 families (about 300 people) in Dereke received aid. On 26 February, 140 families (about 700 people) in Dugkrga village received food parcels and essential goods, including rice, oil, sugar, blankets, mattresses, baby food and hygiene products. In total, we reached over 200 families - more than 1,000 people - with these first distributions.
We are grateful to God for making this possible and for allowing us to openly express our Christian identity. The recipients know that Christians made this aid possible. The aid went to anyone in need, regardless of background or religion.”
