'Does diaconate belong to deacons?' After a catechism evening on diaconate, most young people of the CGK Aalten agreed that the answer is 'no'. Looking after others is a Biblical calling that applies to every Christian. And therefore also for young Christians!
As part of diaconal week, the catechists of CGK Aalten had devoted the catechism evening in the week leading up to Relief Sunday to diaconate. Counsellor René Hubregtse provided the catechism lesson for two groups. With the youngest group, we reflected on the theme of mercy. The oldest group discussed the theme of justice.
At the end of the lesson, the young people wrote down in which way they themselves could be diaconally active in the coming period. It is great to experience that young people are aware of the need in the world and of the fact that you can sometimes do something about it very close to home.
