Hope for church and society cannot be taken for granted, as the church is shrinking sharply due to little appeal and society is cracking violently due to all kinds of crises. Because of these hard facts, there is much more reason to be worried than hopeful.

Yet there is reason for church and society to be hopeful because of God's promises, found voop in the Bible. The core is that God does not resign Himself to the demolition and downfall of church and society, but shows a passable way to an attractive church and an upright society. He does this through his Spirit who represents him to people and exerts his influence on them. How this happens and how we can learn to understand and follow God's instructions is described by Rev Marius Noorloos in the recently published book De Geest wijst de weg. This signpost can be compared to the naviagttion that guides motorists to reach their destination.

The reflection section explains the Spirit as a signpost for church and society. The application part follows ten steps or phases that are necessary and possible for this.

Recommendation

The Spirit shows the way is recommended by Dr Jan van 't Spijker, lecturer in missionary subjects and church building at Theological University Apeldoorn, among others: Rev Marius Noorloos has for years been concerned with the question of how the church of Christ can be shaped in a living way. In this roadmap, he - once again - puts very valuable material on the table. Warmly recommended.

The book costs €14.99 and is available from Christelijke Boekencentrale and bookshops.
