Project description
The organisation Mercy House offers in Ukraine a shelter to single (young) women with their babies and children living in difficult circumstances. Mercy House provides food and clothing and teaches them basic skills such as cooking and budget management. The mothers try to work or get an education and take care of the children. With the right guidance, the mothers regain their self-esteem, are more confident and take courage to face the future!
Why this project?
Pregnant girls and young mothers are often on their own in Ukraine. The number of abortions and abandoned children is therefore high. Domestic violence and family conflicts are also common. Mercy House helps these women become self-reliant and create a home for their children.
Impact
By providing the mothers with bed, bath and bread, they can work towards an independent life in the meantime. A job is an important part of this. In doing so, the mothers also build a social network. With Mercy House's support, the mothers get their lives back on track, especially emotionally and financially. Their children flourish as a result. A stable childhood is invaluable.
What can we learn?
Besides professional help, a good neighbour or colleague can be very important for single parents.
