Project description
From Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, ICC has launched an entrepreneurial project for disadvantaged women. This Christian organisation offers 60 women vocational training through which they learn to earn a living themselves. By learning a trade such as sewing, jewellery making or beautician, ICC helps them get a better life. It also motivates the women from the Bible to take responsibility for their own lives.
Why this project?
One focuses on three rural churches in the municipality of Tipitapa and the city of León where there is much economic and social need. Women in particular are mostly disadvantaged economically and socially. Appropriate technical and entrepreneurial training enables the women to integrate into the labour market. In doing so, they will also receive training for entering the labour market and assistance in finding a suitable workplace with a fair salary. This will change their economic and social situation for the better.
Impact
Collaborating with the local church and community creates a network of volunteers who motivate and equip the women from the love of God. For the best possible and lasting results, there is also collaboration with national and international organisations. It is hoped to equip the women so that they themselves in turn become role models for other women and start passing on the love of God to those around them.
What can we learn?
Project coordinator Humberto Flores has gained experience from three similar projects in other communities. The successful experiences from then are being used now and can be applied again in other churches and communities in the future. In this way, more and more women can be helped to permanently change their disadvantaged situation both economically and socially.
