Getting your degree at university is always a great moment. This is especially true in Burundi. That's when things really get festive. Because in order to study, you have to meet a number of requirements. Your grades from secondary school have to be good enough. And that's an issue for a lot of young people in that country: usually you just have to go to work, to contribute a bit to the family income. So you don't finish high school. If you can, there is another issue: do you have money for university?
That is one of the reasons why mission helps the churches of the EPRB with scholarships for students who want to study theology.
One such student is Ezekiel Murisho. He was given the opportunity and recently completed his bachelor's degree in theology with a fine result.
The second chairman of the synod board, Rev John Ndizeye, wrote a brief thank you note on the occasion of the graduation: 'We thank you very much. This is part of your effort during the difficult moment of EPRB, but you accepted what we presented to you so that today we have a student who has completed the Bible and theology department. We are happy that you love God so much. The Lord bless you and all the churches.'
Ezekiel took his mother to the graduation ceremony - and she looks very happy too! We wish Ezekiel that he will be able to work with many blessings in the churches in Burundi!
