From 2011, Br John van Leeuwen was a member of the committee looking after the affairs of the mission project in Burundi. But even before that, he was already involved in Burundi, through the Culemborg church council that supported a number of projects in that country involving Br Innocent Nimpagaritse.
For years, he helped to seek the best for the EPRB, but at the last study day of deputies on mission, he was eager to say goodbye. He was already sixty-five when he joined the committee.

At his farewell, the chairman of the mission, Rev Van der Zwan, recalled that Br. Van Leeuwen had never been on a working visit to Burundi. He did not need to, said Br. Van Leeuwen, because he had been there on a project visit from the Culemborg congregation for the Tabarana foundation, which supported a children's home 'La Maison Wartburg' in Makamba, in the south of Burundi.
From Culemborg, there will be a new representative on the committee. We thank Br Van Leeuwen for his years of commitment!
