There is another new Doorgeven. This year's May issue is about spring in the church.
Declining membership numbers, tensions in the church, increasing secularisation... it would make you despondent. But those who look closely also see signs of flourishing.
Sometimes the flourishing is very cautious and fragile. For instance in Sassenheim, where church closure seemed unavoidable, but where there is now courage and perspective to continue. Or in Girona, where church planters Guido and Evelín sow and pray and wait to see what will blossom. But also in the Drachten Bloeit initiative, which is still germinating.
Sometimes the growth is very clear, as in Mozambique. The harvest of the farming initiative is more than just food; there is also community and faith development. And in northern Italy, where pioneering is purposeful and fruitful. Or in places where you might not expect it, such as among students.
Spring gives hope and courage to go on! Wherever you see new life in the church, God is at work. "Behold, I am going to perform something new, now it is germinating - haven't you noticed it yet?" (Isaiah 43:19).
