The third session week of the GS has started.
Rev Peet opens with a reading from John 13 and an appellative meditation on the foot washing of the Lord Jesus. We need it to go the way of service, as the Lord Jesus showed us.
Before we get to the agenda itself, it is asked whether we should continue meeting like this. Would it be better to consult the churches themselves first, in whatever form? Then, in a few months' time, we can see which way is passable. The discussion goes on at length, until lunchtime. This item will be discussed further in the evening.
In the afternoon, finances are first on the agenda. This topic has to be dealt with anyway. Being a church costs (a lot of) money. Deputaten Financiële Zaken regulates this and determines, for example, what the minimum annual contribution per CGK member should be. Then the work of the quaestor (financial administrator) of the General Synod is also discussed. For delegates who have some affinity with numbers, it is an enervating afternoon.
The rest of the afternoon and evening more or less revolves around the important questions of what we as a synod have to do in this week. Given the situation of our denomination, it is important to establish what will be on the agenda. We will continue to meet on that tomorrow.
